‘PSL Could Have Been Completed with Only Local Players Involved’: says Shahid Khan Afridi

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi on Thursday said that the sixth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) could have been completed despite the challenging situation with just local players involved.

Taking to popular social media site Twitter, the 44-year-old said the country’s premier T20 tournament is all about bringing up local talent.

“Despite a challenging situation, I feel the PSL could have been completed even with only local/young players involved,” he said. “PSL is all about nurturing new talent."

Afridi’s comments were made in light of Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to postpone the event indefinitely after a Covid-19 outbreak was reported in tournament’s ‘bio-secure’ bubble.

The Multan Sultans’ all-rounder was optimistic about PSL’s return saying the tournament will come back stronger. “The tournament was very entertaining and provided quality cricket to fans around the world,” Afridi said.

“I fully back the PSL and IA it will come back stronger than ever.”

Meanwhile, the player also urged people to take the pandemic seriously and follow the SOPs for the health and safety of their loved ones.
